Ear Candling
Ear Candles have been used since ancient times and appear in the histories of most cultures such as the Greeks, Romans and Egyptians. Today people are most familiar with the term Hopi which refers to the Hopi Indians of North America. The Hopi Cultural Preservation society have requested that people practicing this ancient healing ritual simply refer to it as Ear Candling or Thermal Auricular Therapy as the Hopi name has been exploited with no benefit to the Hopi Indians themselves.

Heat has long since been recognised as a useful aid in healing for painful conditions such as joint inflammation and ear aches and smoke has a history of being used to cleanse and clear negative energy. Ear Candles bring together the elements of fire, heat, smoke and herbs to assist healing, induce relaxation and promote well-being.

Ear Candling is a very pleasant, relaxing and non invasive treatment that involves a special type of hollow, conical candle being gently inserted in the ear. When the candle is lit a gentle heat is created that creates a gentle suction and soothes the ear and a lovely, slightly crackly sound is heard. These tiny sound waves stimulate tiny follicles and all the component parts in the ears, in essence creating a massage for the ears, promoting healing and stimulating the bodies own natural removal of any debris that is building up.

Because the ears, nose, sinuses and throat are all interconnected,  the whole of the upper respiratory tract as well as the ears benefit. The receiver may experience a feeling of pressure being released in the ears or sinuses or a popping sound as the Eustachian tube opens.

All of the candles that I use are completely natural combining pure unbleached cotton, and natural beeswax. I do not use inferior candles that contain paraffin or treated cotton. You have the choice of plain unscented candles or can choose from candles that are impregnated with organic essential oils. These candles are coloured using only natural vegetable dyes for example beetroot or turmeric. They contain safety filters and conform to all EC safety regulations.

Treatment with the candles generally lasts about thirty minutes and this is then followed by a facial massage which stimulates lymph and removal of toxins as well being extremely relaxing. In general you should allow at least one hour for a full treatment.
